Why We Did a Buying 180

When HEIRLOOM HOUSE first started to bubble into something awesome we did what all new shop owners do. We drew on our wealth of experience, knowledge, and keen business insight. And we Googled.

Seriously. So much Googling. The 'G' on my keyboard is wearing out.

 Fancy purchase orders. Thanks, Google.

Fancy purchase orders. Thanks, Google.

We Googled vendors, terminology, sales tracking, POS systems, purchase orders . . . you name it, we Googled it. We filled out our fancy purchase orders. Heck, we even sent some in. We had all your typical vendors on lockdown and we were ready to dive into this awesome independent boutique thing.

 We make statements with necklaces.

But, that word "independent" kept sticking out. How could we be a truly "independent boutique if we were sourcing our finds from the "typical" outlets?" We couldn't.

So we stopped Googling. We stepped away from the computer. We did deep breathing exercises and we thought. A lot.

The question we had to answer was: How do we marry truly independent and unique finds with completely accessible price points?

The answer: We find the designers. We find the makers. We bring the special and unique creations of artists around the globe to our customers' front doors.

Once we made this decision the Googling came back. More ferocious than ever. While we were Googling we made calls, we networked, we talked to the sister of a friend's cousin of a friend of a friend. We hustled and negotiated and when we open our doors on June 2, 2017, you will see a hand-curated collection of items that truly represent the independent.

We found wooden goods from an independent maker in Thailand, Moroccan baskets adorned with pom-poms from a designer in England, letterpress cards from an artist in Maine, whisky barrel lazy susans from a maker in Tenessee, and on and on and on and on . . .

Don't get us wrong, we didn't go 100% indie. (We wish though.) What we did do is marry as much independent work as we could with the price point benefits of some unique furniture and accessories not often seen on a boutique level. So you get the benefits of big box pricing with the style and service of HEIRLOOM HOUSE on categories like lighting and furniture.
